The
Lord’s Prayer
by Albert Hay Malotte
This is, in America,
the best-known setting of Jesus’ prayer to the God he
called “Father.” The prayer, given in Matthew’s
Sermon on the Mount and in slightly variant form in Luke, is
used by Christians of all denominations. This setting combines
opening pianissimo passages that slowly crescendo to the forte
ending, with a melody loved by all.
Text: Matthew 6: 9-13
Our Father, which art
in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy
will be done in earth, and it is in heaven.
Give us this day
our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our
debtors.
And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory forever.
Amen. |
