Blessed
is the People
by Clifton Parker 1938
A
modal piece, rare among late Romantic or early 20th century
works for its sprightly, dancing quality; ideally
suited for a light, flexible
voice; some drama required just before its charmingly understated
ending.
Text:
Psalm 89: 15-17, 1, 5; Psalm 119: 105
Blessed
is the people that know the joyful sound: They shall walk,
O Lord, in
the light of thy countenance.
In
thy name shall they rejoice all the day, for thou art the
glory of their strength.
I
will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever.
And
the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Lord.
Thy
word is a lamp unto my feet, a light unto my path.
