Create in me a Clean Heart

A prayer of petition rather than affirmation; David’s plea to God for forgiveness, his honest assessment of wrongdoing and need of grace; rendered in minor.

Text: Psalm 51: 10, 2, 6, 16, 17

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward part: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it:

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
