The
Beatitudes
by
Albert Hay Malotte
This is a short
gem in plaintive minor mode by the composer of the dramatic “Lord’s
Prayer.” The melody evokes the longing of lack with the
promise of fulfillment, offering a vocal pause between each
of these four Beatitudes to allow the listener space for reflection.
Text: Matthew 5: 3-6
Blessed are the poor
in spirit:
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that
mourn:
for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek:
for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they which
do hunger and thirst after righteousness:
for they shall be filled. |
