Gesù Bambino
by Pietro Yon
This famous Christmas
song (which interweaves the melody of “Adeste Fidelis” in
the accompaniment and the vocal refrain) has always retained
its original Italian title. A favorite since the period around
World War I. The style is reminiscent of a lullabye – but
with short cadenza!
When blossoms flowered,
and the stars shone down on Christmas night,
Was born the child, the Christmas Rose, the King of love and light.
The angels sang, the shepherd bowed, the grateful earth rejoiced.
And at his blessed birth the stars their exultation voiced.
(Refrain)
O come, let
us adore him, Christ, the Lord.
Again the heart with thankfulness glows to greet the holy night
That gave the world its Christmas Rose, its King of love and
light.
Let every voice acclaim his name, the grateful chorus swell.
From God our father to us he came, that we with Christ might
dwell.
(Refrain)
O come, let
us adore him, Christ, the Lord.
Rejoice, o come let us adore him, rejoice, adore him, Christ
the Lord.
O come ye! O come. O come let us adore him, adore him,
Christ the Lord. |
